It was a lovely day thank you. Can anyone confirm the name of the judge in Ring 1 please?
Sunday 17 Oct 14:14
What a lovely day we had in the childrens ring, facepainting allsorts of things on little faces - lots of requests for Homer!!! Our three hounds came along with Rob for a while and I was delighted that Jake took it all in his stride - no nerves at all!! It was lovely to see some of the beautiful alumni dogs here again - had a cuddle with Rolo, who i always had a soft spot for!! And was delighted to see the star of the show - Maisie, looking so posh in all her new gear and receiving so much love from everyone. It really warmed my heart to see it, and meet your lovely new mum in person! Fantastic all round - defintiely be there next year!! Thanks to all the organisers for a great day xx
Sunday 17 Oct 11:44
We had a lovely day. Rolo won a rosette! He did so well with so much going on. Got himself a toy and knocked a few things off stall's!! All the daybreaks grunds did so well, and we had the pleasure of meeting Chille. Hopefully she will be our new addition to the family. Great day. Rich, Manda & Rolo xxxx
Sunday 17 Oct 08:46
Thankyou to everyone for a brilliant day! The atmosphere was great, aren't dog people the best?! We had Mick with us and he did really well, meeting other breeds, getting lots of cuddles and comments about his beautiful coat and cute ears! He even met his Mum who's at Bark Inn kennels, I got a bit choked when they said hello to each other. Thankyou again for organising a super day x
Saturday 16 Oct 21:57
We would just like to say what a brilliant day we had at the show today, we came home with 3 rosettes and an extra grey (thanks Ruth). Max came home with us, he travelled well, he is getting on well with Blaze and Gracie although she did give a one bark warning when he decided to get into her pink fluffy bed....... He has eaten all his dinner even checking the other bowls for left overs. He has been for a walk with our other two, and has now taken over one of the sofas. Despite only being here for a few hours he has proven to be extremely loving and laid back. He will make a great addition to someone's family.
Blaze did very well today, coming out of his shell by letting strangers fuss him, and recieved two rosettes.
Gracie was still very nervous around other dogs, spending most of the time pulling in the opposite direction we wanted to go. She did come home with a rosette.
It was great to see the Daybreak greys walking around hoping you all find loving homes soon. xx
Saturday 16 Oct 21:01
Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who helped to make today such a fabulous day, We had a great time chatting to fellow owners and meeting all the dogs. My two are still fast aslep only waking up to eat their tea. My very shy boy Fletcher excelled himself and came home with four rosettes something we'd never believed possible before we went to Julie's "Tellington Touch" class, it wasn't Boogies day as she was spooked by the P.A system but she was so much better than when we came last year.
A Big thank you to everyone x x
Saturday 16 Oct 20:55
Just wanted to say a big thank you to Julie and everyone involved in organising and running the show today. We all had a great time. Lena & Lola are very much looking forward to me trying some of the recipes from the A la Bark Baking book which we bought today. Love from Linda, Paul, Lola & Lena xx
Saturday 16 Oct 18:29
What a lovely day! Thanks to everyone who turned up, whether to volunteer, or to spend their money on our stalls - I don't know about the other stalls yet but the cake stall made £280! This much needed money will go directly to helping our gorgeous greys and will really make a big difference to their lives. Also, a big thank you must go to all the fab people who donated lots of lovely cakes, they went down a treat! I do have a few containers which the cakes arrived in, and also a cake tray which held the lovely lemon cake, so if you are the owner of these items and would like to be reunited with them, I have them in my safe-keeping. I can be contacted via here, or emma.bryce@rgtperrybarr.co.uk to arrange collection. Thanks again, see you next year ;0)
Saturday 16 Oct 18:13
We had a lovely exhausting day, 2 very sleepy dogs lying in front of me. Just wanted to say a big thank you to all of you that very kinly held onto 1 or other of my greys whilst I was in the show ring. Luckliy we even managed a couple of rosettes! It was a great day, so thanks to all of that run the event and Daybreaks. luv t Reubes & Blossom (prettiest Black bitch)
Saturday 16 Oct 18:12

Saturday 16 Oct 18:04
Thanks to all involved in organising today, was a really lovely day and it all went so well. Plus Roxy is worn out and has slept since getting back so I think we're having a quiet night! :-) xx

Saturday 16 Oct 12:12
Hope you all have a wonderful day today. We were on our way, when Emily had a very nasty bout of car-sickness. She was so upset that her tail was tucked between her legs, so thought it best to bring her home to relax instead. Hope you see you next year! Mand x
Friday 15 Oct 13:51
To anyone who Pam has asked to help in the Dog Show tomorrow .. I have been trying to find a minute to ring everyone and have failed miserably :( Please - if you are going to help and haven't spoken to Ruth would you please turn up between 8.30 and 9am and find me ... I'll be looking harassed proabably :) if you want to ask me anything then please give me a ring - my number is 0774 7754759.
I've had phone calls from the Galloping Greyhound Gourmet who's definitely at the Show - she's cooked rabbit casserole for dogs to 'Take Away' or 'Eat In' :) Mine had some at the Newmarket Show and licked the bowl clean so check her out - she'll also bring copies of her receipe book to sell - ideal for a Christmas present :)
All our greys are usually micro chipped before being rehomed but if anyone wants a dog chipped we've got a qualified 'chipper' coming too.
I hope you all have a great time, get lots of rosettes and enjoy Perry Barr's Fun Day and Dog Show ... just remember that we all go home with the very best dog at the Show :)
See you all tomorrow.
Julie xx
Friday 15 Oct 13:37
Am gutted not to be able to come tomorrow and volunteer to show off a beautiful day breaks dog :'0( I hope that everyone and every dog has a greyt time and lots of pennies are raised. You all do such an amazing job. Having Ruby, JoJo and Myles in my life continues to be such a blessing, so a great big thankyou to all xxx
Friday 15 Oct 13:09
So sorry we can't make it - babysitting duties 'up North' and visiting my parents who we haven't seen for months! Have a fun day x
Friday 15 Oct 12:57
My Twitter activity has also sparked a dog blog mention of the event: http://winniethegreyhound.blogspot.com/2010/10/fun-sunday-for-greyhounds-in-west.html
Fingers crossed even more peeps will come along as a result!
Friday 15 Oct 12:45
You might all like to know that I've been rallying support on Twitter for this day (in absence of being able to come along) - I got the Dogs Trust to 'tweet' out a message about the day and a link to the schedule - they have 15,000+ 'followers' (e.g. people that look at / receive their tweets) so hopefully this will bring along new people and open up their eyes to the wonderful wonder of retired hounds :) Have fun everyone xx

Monday 11 Oct 21:07
Hi Ruth
Please could you let me know what time will the dog show finish?
Monday 11 Oct 19:59
Yay, go Craig! I've had a request for Victoria Sponge today so if he wants to make one of those that would save me a job! Thanks Laura (and Craig!) xxx
Monday 11 Oct 18:14
I am very lucky to say that my hubby is an ace cake maker! Craig loves to bake and we're coming on Saturday anyway so let us know if there is any preference and he said he'll have a go. He's particularly good at Victoria sponges and chocolate cake! :-)
Monday 11 Oct 15:37
Ina (Kallie) and I will again be making trillions of cakes for the cakes stall, but as they went like, erm, hotcakes last year, any donations of cakes would be gratefully received! If you will be able to bring anything, or indeed if you would like to help us out on the cake stall for a bit, please drop me an email on emma.bryce@rgtperrybarr.co.uk. For the vegans out there, there will be some vegan friendly chocolate fudge cake, chocolate muffins and flapjacks so get in quick! Em xxx
Monday 11 Oct 10:12
Hi Dan&Cleo, and all others helping with taking a Trust dog to the show. I will give you a confirmation call on Friday but it would be great if you can arrive at the kennels between 9 - 9.30am.
Monday 11 Oct 10:09
HELP! We need a few more things sorting for the dog show..... We need help with a couple of volunteers on the door from 9 - 11 to collect money.... Paul Lyons is going to commentate but we need someone to help take over for Paul to have a break.... also needed are tables. If you have a STURDY table(s) you can lend for the day we can make the RGT stands bigger! If you think you can help with any of these, please give Ruth a call on 0121 782 7702 or email me at Ruth.Boswell@rgtperrybarr.co.uk Many thanks in advance! x
Sunday 10 Oct 14:44
Ruth
Im really pleased you have been able to find volunteers to help out with the dogs next Saturday. I put my name down early September to help out but you where still looking for volunteers at the time. What time would you like us to come and collect our dog (or dogs as i cant remember how many we said we would look after) on the morning and where from?
Friday 08 Oct 14:23
And if your grey needs a new dog bed we've got Alfie Moon's dog beds at the Show ... Carol makes hard wearing, easy washable, not expensive dog beds and my hounds say they're very comfy too :)
Friday 08 Oct 09:20
Well after having a blip with the photographer we've got another one ... this one is going to do photos of dogs and people as usual and also will make a calendar for you with your dog's pic or kiddie's pic or anything as a backdrop so please check it out ...

Thursday 07 Oct 07:47
As we are taking all the Trust dogs to the show on Saturday 16th October, this means Daybreaks Kennels will be CLOSED FOR THE WHOLE DAY.
Wednesday 06 Oct 15:27
Are there any really great rosettes for black greyhounds called Wispa?!
Wednesday 06 Oct 15:06
We've got some fab trophies for the Champions of each ring that I collected this week, Fish4Dogs also gave us great fishy, crunchy prizes ... I think we'll give those to our Veteran/Vintage class winners as I love the oldies and they deserve some serious treats and you should see the rosettes for the 'oldest dogs' ... wowweeeee Humungous :)
Just over a week to go and Liz is collecting the rosettes tomorrow so then we can package them into 1st to 6th sets for each class, label them so its easy for our stewards to find and we're nearly ready for the big day :) We couldn't do this Show without loads of volunteers who help us on the day so a big thank you in advance to them and I really hope that everyone has a lovely day and goes home with lots of rosettes .... of course we all go home with the best dog :)
A big special thank you to Pam ... even tho she has been very very seriously ill and is still in hospital she's sent Ruth the list of helpers that she was arranging for the Show - so many thanks Pam, I didn't expect you to remember that .... just concentrate on getting better please :)
See you all on the 16th with your dogs.
Julie xx
Tuesday 05 Oct 12:49

Tuesday 05 Oct 12:19
Hi Dawn, Andy & Penny, thanks for your offer. You are on the list for helping.... so sorry, didn't realise you were waiting for a call back..... xxx
Tuesday 05 Oct 10:53
Hiya
I'm sure you'll be needed at the dog show ... and I'd love some more helpers if Ruths got plenty so please come along on the 16th and ask anyone where me or Ruth are :)
Thank you for offering, it takes lots of people to run the day and we want everyone to have the chance to take their dogs into classes too so the more helpers the better :)

Monday 20 Sep 09:59
Woohoo its getting closer and closer ... Just hoping the rosettes and Trophies are all ok (not that I'm panicking :) ). I hope you're all going to have a go at the Greyhound Show classes as well as the Novelty classes too ... I know we all take the best dog home with us but the show classes are fun as well so please have a go and its a fabulous feeling when you get a rosette... the judge- Rita, is a lovely lady who has racers as well as show greyhounds so please take your beautiful greys in the age classes too :)
Like Ruth said - all entries are on the day, greys are Pedigree dogs too so you could enter the Hound class in the Companion Dog Show (Ring 1 in the smaller arena) and if you do you need to fill in an entry form and pay before your class (Sandra and Chris are our very efficient secretaries who'll be in the small arena). All classes except those in Ring 1 you'll pay your entry fee in the Ring just before the class is judged :)
We've got some great trade stands coming - Mekuti- animal equipment/harnesses, A La Bark baking ... my dogs adored her rabbit casserole :), collars, birds of prey etc etc so please bring loads of money and your Christmas present list :)
Jx
Monday 13 Sep 10:59
Yes! Just bring loads of money with you to support us!
Monday 13 Sep 10:49
can you just show up on the day?
Tuesday 07 Sep 19:33

Tuesday 07 Sep 12:50
HELP! We are after 16 volunteers to look after a Trust dog each at the dog show - with the hope of finding them homes. Please give Ruth a call if you can assist. Many thanks. 0121 782 7702
Monday 06 Sep 11:38
Well the rosettes are ordered .... the Trust's bank balance isn't good at the mo so we thought we'd have to economise but luckily we've found another supplier who can do 3 tier rosettes much cheaper than our usual supplier so we've ordered from them. We're getting a few calls from other trade stands who want to come so Liz is busy sending out email letters and keeping tabs on who's coming already and these new ones.
Liz and I went to City of Bham dog show on Friday and the Fish4Dogs people very generously gave us prizes for the dog show so I'm having trouble deciding which classes to give the prizes too ... would anyone notice if the 11 year old Greyhound bitch and the Over 18'' lurcher classes had 4 prizes each :) Knowing my luck my dogs would both be 5th :)
Our postage is free at the mo so we sent out the schedules to our mailing list separately ... many thanks to everyone who has sponsored a class, it makes a big difference to our Show and hopefully it's a nice way to remember an old friend or current one :) Thank you letters will be sent out after the Show.

Hi Jenny Bennett stood in for us at the last minute when another judge was unable to come due to ill health, Jenny's affix is something like Mijaneek (don't think that's quite right but I haven't got the details here at work). Glad you enjoyed the day :)
