Coast to Coast sponsored walk - June 2013

by RobbieBoz

30-Jun-2013

We must thank Fivelands vets and Martin Fennings of the GRA for sponsoring us so generously to help cover our costs. We thank everyone for their generosity, the amounts rolling in have been fantastic. If you haven't been able to sponsor us yet please do so, any amount large or small will make a huge difference.

We are Rob Boswell, Ray Woodbridge, Paul Warman, Pete Barrett and Mark Neal and are attempting to walk from Whitehaven on the West coast to Sunderland on the East coast at the end of June this year. None of us are fit by any stretch of the imagination, some of us are overweight  and some over tall :-)) but all have one goal...to help the retired greyhounds find good homes. This takes a lot of money to do, and we all want to try and raise as much money as possible to help continue the good work being done at Daybreaks kennels and Perry Barr Retired Greyhound Trust. If you would like to sponsor us you can do so by going to www.justgiving.com/teams/C2CGreyhounds or by texting Foxy90 to 70070 followed by your donation amount. Thank you for your support.

On our way to start our final days walk. The minibus is fairly quiet as I think we are all contemplating how we will feel later when it is all over. We're all ready and raring to go.

The end is definitely in sight - in the words of a great song from my favourite musical "One Day More"!! So proud of all of you and what you are doing, just keep focusing on a comfy bed and a nice pint at the end of it all!! See you Sunday. x

Day 6 completed and 115 miles clocked up. Feeling very tired but very proud of ourselves. Can't wait to dip my toe in the North Sea tomorrow at Sunderland.

Day 6. The end is getting ever closer. Spirits were a little dampened this morning with the stark realisation we had taken a wrong turning last night. Fortunately it wasn't just us walking who made the mistake as Paul was waiting at the end of the road for us. It has however added 2.5miles to our journey today. Ho hum :-(

Well that was an amazingly difficult day. So many inclines and descents. We have all got sore feet and aching muscles but are still keeping our spirits up. Tomorrow is a another landmark day as we pass the 100 mile mark. The texts and messages we are getting on the website and through Facebook are a great motivator. I will post again tomorrow.

I'm loving the updates, sounds like quite an adventure. Hands up who else kind of wishes they were there doing it too - I've now got an image in my head from the Forrest Gump film, with hundreds of Greyhound owners trailing behind you all! Mand x

All up and ready for some breakfast. We had a bit of a landmark yesterday which gave us a boost. We now have less than a hundred miles to go. Muscles are starting to ache a lot, but still all very positive. Bring it on!!!!

Second day very tough. Lots of inclines and decents. Lots of aching muscles but we are all still very positive. We must say a massive thanks to Paul Brockhouse who has run around for us fetching and carrying. Big day tomorrow we will see if we have any energy left for another 20 mile hike.

If anyone wants to see where the walkers are (roughly) Paul has set up something clever via his phone, which as long as they can get an internet connection, will relay his position to a web site. On the hope they are still all together we are assuming that's where the whole team are to be found! Apparently it will play catch up later if at any time they lose the mobile connection.
